Ohio Scholarships and Grants For College

Students studying in colleges and universities in the state of Ohio have a wide variety of scholarships and grant programs to choose form. Most of these scholarships and grant programs are offered by individual colleges and universities. Hence the eligibility criterion and deadlines vary according to the individual institutions. However, most of the scholarships and grants are open to the residents of Ohio only.

OHIO COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY GRANT (OCOG)

The OHIO COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY GRANT (OCOG) is open to Ohio residents only. The scholarship is funded by the state of Ohio hence the number of recipients and scholarship awards vary every year. Students displaying a financial need on their FAFSA forms are automatically considered for this program. Eligible students must also have a consistent GPA of 2.5 or higher in their high school.

The scholarship award amount is decided on the basis of financial need and expected family contribution. However, the scholarship amount does not exceed $1,000 per student per year. The scholarship can be used at any college or university in the state and is renewable every year up to four years.

OHIO ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP (OAS)

The OHIO ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP (OAS) provides financial assistance up to $2,000 per student per year. The scholarship is awarded only on the basis of merit and academic achievement. Eligible students must be Ohio residents and have a strong academic record. The scholarship can be used to cover tuition and other college related expenses at any college and university in the state. Interested students must apply for this scholarship through their FAFSA forms.

OHIO WAR ORPHANS SCHOLARSHIP

The OHIO WAR ORPHANS SCHOLARSHIP awards scholarships to students whose parent was killed or severely disabled in military conflict. Undergraduate and post graduate students enrolled in full-time courses under the age of 25 years are eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship amount and number of recipients vary every year. The scholarship is renewable every year if the selected student has maintained satisfactory academic progress. Interested students are required to contact the Ohio Board of Regents State Grant and Scholarships Department for further information. The deadline for the scholarship is July 1.

OHIO SAFETY OFFICERS COLLEGE MEMORIAL FUND

The OHIO SAFETY OFFICERS COLLEGE MEMORIAL FUND provides financial assistance to children and spouses of officers and firefighters who were killed in the line of duty. Eligible students must be Ohio residents and must be ineligible for the Ohio War Orphans Scholarship. Interested students are required to contact the Ohio Board of Regents State Grant and Scholarships Department for further information. The deadline for the scholarship is July 1.

NURSE EDUCATION ASSISTANCE LOAN PROGRAM (NEALP)

This program awards scholarships to students who wish to enroll themselves in nursing courses in Ohio. The selected students are required to serve as a nurse in the state of Ohio for five years after graduation. The program awards up to $1,500 per student. Eligible students must be enrolled in approved schools and must meet requirements of the expected family contribution set by the state Ohio.

Ohio offers many resources to students to make college education affordable and accessible.
