Minnesota Scholarships and Grants
The state of Minnesota offers a number of scholarships and grants to students who are residents of Minnesota and have graduated from high schools in Minnesota. Most of these scholarships and grants require the students to fill up the FAFSA form and display a financial need to receive scholarships or grants.
The Minnesota Academic Excellence Scholarship
The Minnesota Academic Excellence Scholarship provides financial assistance which covers partial to full tuition of the chosen applicant. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and financial need. Eligible students must be residents of Minnesota and should have graduated from high schools in Minnesota. Eligible students must also enroll themselves in colleges or universities in Minnesota in the same academic year of their high school graduation.
Though the program is open to all high school students it is limited to students applying for Math, science, English/Creative Writing, Social Science and Foreign Language courses. Students need to apply at the respective colleges or university for this scholarship. The scholarship is renewable every year up to 3 years provided the chosen applicant maintains the academic performance.
Minnesota Achieve Scholarship
The Minnesota Achieve Scholarship aims at providing a financial incentive to high school students who have let their grades slip. This program provides financial assistance to high school students with a minimum C grade to complete their college education by selecting any one of the four courses. The scholarship awards up to $1,200 per student to cover the college costs. The chosen applicant can renew the scholarship provided there has been academic progress.

Minnesota Indian Scholarship
The Minnesota Indian Scholarship is open to all high school students who are Native Americans by origin. The scholarship provides funding to Native American high school students who are residents of Minnesota and are willing to enroll themselves in colleges or universities in Minnesota. The eligible students for this scholarship should also be recipients of the Pell Grant. Students can complete the application online.
Educational Assistance for War Orphans
The Educational Assistance for War Orphans is open to high school students who have lost a parent in military. The death of the parent should have been due to a ‘service caused condition’. The program awards up to $750 to the chosen applicant. Eligible students must also be residents of the state of Minnesota for at least two years prior to applying for the scholarship. Students eligible for this program are also eligible for free tuition from the University of Minnesota and other state colleges and universities. The students are required to contact the respective offices of financial aid of the institutions.
Minnesota State Grants
The Minnesota State Grants are open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the colleges and universities in Minnesota. The students are required to show financial need to receive this grant. Students from middle to low income families are given priority under this program. Though the award amount depends on individual need chosen applicants can receive up to $9000 every year.
Minnesota provides many great options of receiving financial aid. Hence the students must start researching and applying early to take advantage of the opportunities offered.
