Iowa Scholarships and Grants
The state of Iowa realizes the fact that though every student wishes to attend college, not many are able to do because of lack of funds. Hence the state government of Iowa offers many scholarships and grants that provide financial assistance to meritorious and financially disadvantaged students. Also taking into consideration that not every student might make it to the honors’ roll, the state of Iowa has specially designed scholarships for students with average performance and financial need.
Governor Terry Branstad Iowa State Fair Scholarship
If a high school student has been highly involved in the Iowa State Fair then he/she is eligible to apply for the Governor Terry Branstad Iowa State Fair Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to students with exceptional academic achievements. The students eligible for this scholarship must be high school seniors who are enrolled in high schools located in the state of Iowa. The applicants must also be willing to enroll themselves in colleges or universities in Iowa.
The scholarship is awarded to 4 students every year and the award amount ranges between $500 and $1,000. The deadline for this scholarship is April 1 and students can apply separately for this scholarship.
Iowa Grant
The Iowa Grant awards up to $1,000 to undergraduate students who have demonstrated a serious financial need in their FAFSA forms. The grant is renewable every year up to four years. The grant is open to students who wish to enroll themselves in independent colleges and universities, regent universities and community colleges located in the state of Iowa. The chosen applicants are notified through the financial aid offices of the respective universities.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships
The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships is a highly selective scholarship and is open to students to have a consistent GPA of 3.5 or higher in high school as well as top ACT or SAT scores. The eligible students should have been accepted into an Iowa state college or university. The applicants must be high achievement students academically and personally. Iowa Tuition Grant
The Iowa Tuition Grant is given to students already enrolled in Iowa state approved private colleges or universities. Students with serious financial need are given maximum priority. The grant awards scholarships up to $4,000 every year. The award amount may vary depending on the funds available. The chosen applicants should be enrolled in full-time courses though the program is also open to part-time students who will receive adjusted amounts. The grant is renewable every year up to four years. Students are automatically considered for this scholarship when they display a financial need in their FAFSA forms.
Robert D. Blue Scholarship
The Robert D. Blue Scholarship, named after the former governor of the state of Iowa awards $500-$1,000 to students with exceptional scholastic and literary skills. Eligible students can be high school seniors or students already enrolled in the Iowa state colleges or universities. The deadline is May 10 and the application must be submitted along with a 500 word essay.
