There is no shortage of grants and scholarships for Hispanic and other minority groups of students. Government agencies private organizations and private foundations are in the forefront in providing grants and scholarships to minority groups. While the government grants targeting students from the low income families, many private agencies and foundations concentrate on ethnic groups. But the private funds generally insist upon a minimum grade point or limited financial resources for the recipient. If you look around, there is no difficulty in finding educational grants for Hispanic students.
Hispanic College Fund and Hispanic Fund Institute are two of the largest funds providing financial assistance to Hispanic students. Microsoft, Wal-Mart, McDonalds and many other corporations have instituted their own foundations to help Hispanic students to fund their college education. Some of them pay directly to the students and others through the colleges and universities.
There is a Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACA). This association is formed by colleges and universities which have a large Hispanic student population. HACA seeks out the Hispanic students in the member colleges and universities and gives grants and scholarships.
In Maryland students of Hispanic origin who are residents of the state are entitled to receive a grant of $5,000 for a period of four years by way of Maryland Hispanic Educational Grant from the US Hispanic Youth Entrepreneur (USHYEE). That means you will be getting $1,250 annually. The student must have a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.75 and must be studying for engineering, technology, science or mathematics.
There are a number of grants and scholarships targeting the Hispanic students who wish to go for the health care professional courses.
The Hispanic Nurses Association gives generous grants and scholarships to those Hispanic students who go for a course in nursing. Their programs include March of Dimes Nursing Scholarship Program, Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program and the Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students Program. Another substantial grant for Hispanic students is the Federal Pell Grants. This is meant for the students from the low income families among the Hispanics.
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund Institute together with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund provides finance to the Hispanic Students who return to college education. They, among other things, encourage those Hispanic students who completed a two year degree course to go for the four year program.
The Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Health Professions has a program to help those institutions which impart high quality education in health care professions to minority groups. The institutions targeting the Hispanic students also can take advantage of it.
In Texas the state government offers grants to Hispanic students who are going for a four year nursing course or vocational nursing program. This program is targeted to improve the educational standards of a sizable chunk of the state population as well as to improve the quality of health care in the state.
There are plenty of opportunities for the Hispanic students to fund their college education.
