Posted on March 26, 2012 by Johnathan

Students who wish to pursue their higher education in the state of Connecticut can do so irrespective of their financial situation. The state of Connecticut offers a wide variety of scholarships and grants that are suited to provide financial assistance to almost every student. There are different ways of how a student can finance the college education. While most of the colleges provide Federal Aid like the Pell Grant, every college also provides scholarships and grants to accepted and enrolled students. These individual college scholarships are unique to every college hence the eligibility and deadlines vary.

CAPS Grant

The CAPS Grant awards scholarship to any student who is a resident of the state of Connecticut and has displayed financial need on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. The program is open to all undergraduate students across all majors. The Connecticut Aid for Public College Students Grant Program is awarded by the Connecticut Department of Public Education. The funds are limited and hence students are advised to apply early for this grant.

The grant awards up to $3,000 per student per year. The need is determined by the University the applicant is applying to.

Connecticut Independent College Student Grant Program

The Connecticut Independent College Student Grant Program is complementary to the CAPS Grant Program. This program offers financial assistance to financially disadvantaged students who wish to pursue higher education from private or independent institutions. The applicants should demonstrate a financial need on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms.

Connecticut State University Grant

The Connecticut State University Grant is another grant specific to the state of Connecticut. This grant is authorized by the Connecticut State Law and allows University Trustees to award up to $18,000 to students accepted or enrolled at the Eastern Connecticut State University. For other state universities the respective financial aid offices determine the scholarship award amount.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship awards scholarships to the top students of the state of Connecticut. The chosen applicants can then utilize the award to fund their college education anywhere in the country. The chosen applicants usually have a consistently high GPA along with top SAT and ACT scores. The chosen applicants also have high involvement in community service while displaying leadership skills. The scholarship awards up to $1,500 to each student and can be renewed every year up to 3 years.
