Prepare for Scholarship Interview

Posted on February 18, 2012 by Johnathan

After applying properly for a scholarship you will be called for an interview. The scholarship interview is also important, because it is at the interview that the scholarship board decides whether you are eligible for the scholarship and, if eligible, the amount of the scholarship. So prepare well for the interview. Your preparation for the interview mostly determines your success. Some tips of the scholarship interview are given below

First find out the exact place and time of the interview. Try to find out the names of the interviewers and their exact titles. Learn to pronounce correctly the interviewers’ names. Arrive at the place of interview a few minutes before the appointed time and get used to the place.
You may be asked by the interviewers why do you think you qualify for the scholarship or even for a scholarship at all. Write down on a piece of paper the reasons for applying for the scholarship. Also note down your academic achievements and why you are confident you will make the grade in your current course. Make a good presentation and read them several times and practice it before the members of your family or friends.
Expect questions on your personal philosophies and beliefs. Be prepared to answer them. Some questions about your economic background also can be expected if you have applied for a need based scholarship. Your answers to these questions will help the interviewers to determine the amount of scholarship to be granted to you.
Be prepared to answer questions on why you selected the subject in which you are majoring in college. Do some research about your subject and find out how it will help attain your goals for the future. Try to learn the growth potential of the field. You may be asked to present your views on it before the interview board.
You may expect some searching questions about yourself. They may ask you about your future plans and the contributions you are going make to the community with your education. Be prepared to give convincing answers to every question on personal matters.
Never get nervous during the interview. Feel relaxed and be clear in your mind about whatever you present before the interview board. The members of the board may even ask questions which you may think are irrelevant. They may even ask about your favorite artists. Answer such questions truthfully and with presence of mind.
Wear proper clothes for the interview. Present yourself as a confident young person. While meeting the interviewers give a firm handshake with a confident smile. Do some practice at home with your friends for the interview.

Start the preparations for the interview well in advance. It is better to start immediately on receiving the invitation for the interview. Remember, getting the scholarship and its value largely depends on your performance at the interview. Any amount of efforts will not be a loss.

Military College Scholarships

Posted on February 18, 2012 by Johnathan

Scholarships are means of aiding people who are interested in having a college education but can not afford paying for one. The same goes for military college scholarships which are normally granted to persons who are involved in the military service or retired from this service, as well as to their family members.

The benefits one can get from a military college scholarship are different from the ones provided by military tuition assistance as the military college scholarship benefits are in the format of various funds, service specific scholarships and other programs related to education.

What is the difference between other scholarships and the military college scholarship? The difference lies in that the latter provides costs necessary to pay for tuition these money coming as cash, vouchers, waivers and tuition payment. Below are presented some examples of military college scholarships:

The Army College Fund - known as ACF and MGIB Kicker available for the ones who apply for GI Bill. Being a high school graduate you will score 50 or even better in the ASVAB qualifying at the same time for certain Army jobs specialties obtaining more than $20,000 added to the GI Bill money.

General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Programs – these ones are granted to children of parents who are active in the military service, for persons being of Title 10 AGR/Reserve, Title 32 AGR with a full-time active duty, as well as retired and family members of an Air Force deceased.

Other persons who are eligible for General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program are Title 10AGR/Reservist, spouses of active duty members, and the spouses of the deceased personnel to benefit from the opportunity of continuing the studies.

The Navy Advanced Education Voucher Program – known as AEV Program is applied to superior levels of education for persons who present flexible ascension to Navy-relevant degree education programs. As such, AEV tends to cover 100% of books, tuition and other relevant fees for someone who needs to have the baccalaureate degree completed. Therefore $6,700 per year will be allotted to the participant for a period of three years since Enrollment.

Military Spouse Scholarship – the military spouses are given the opportunity to obtain a college education with very little or almost zero costs. The amount of money provided depends of course on the school that offers them, but at the same time, the sacrifice of a military spouse is highly appreciated being allowed to have means in order to go on with the education.

Navy (Marine Option) Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarships – The Program known as NROTC has been established to offer education and training to men and women for service performed inside the Marine Corps Reserve. The scholarship in this respect prepares for positions in management and leadership inside the Marine Corps.

Each of these programs are available in the range of military college scholarships and they can as well differ from one to another, but all of the above exist with the purpose of assisting the service members, veterans and their families to further their studies in costs coverage that will enable them to get a college education for their future.

Applying for college scholarship

Posted on February 18, 2012 by Johnathan

Now that the time has come for you to apply for a college scholarship you need to complete the file that is ready to be submitted to the eyes of the college examiners. This file must contain letters of recommendation, your resume, the application form and along with all these you will have to write an essay to describe yourself and why you are more important than another student to be granted the scholarship.

Of course that you do not need to explicitly formulate the essay with you winning over a huge competition, but the examiner while reading your essay to realize that you truly deserve the scholarship you are applying for.

It is more than mandatory for you to apply for more than one college scholarship if you want at least one to be granted to you, and the purpose of the essay that you write has to emerge from between the lines, and this purpose being a better knowledge on the type of person you are.

This is important for you to insert general facts of your everyday life which can reflect an accurate image of who you are in a positive light. For instance you can say that although you have always longed for the weekend days to have a rest you have decided to spent it with activities performed in the community or examples of this kind where letters of reference should be as well included.

As a future college student you have to prove that your language and way of formulating the essay do not belong to an immature teenager, therefore do not start with typical phrases such as “My name is … and I attend the classes of …”.

Through your style of writing you have to draw the examiner’s attention allowing him or her to make the difference between you and another student involving him or her into a further reading of your essay because they are intrigued (in a positive way) by your style and by what you have to say.

Next you should focus on the accomplishments that you are after once the scholarship is granted to you and how closer you will be to the dream of becoming a social assistant, for instance.

Do not overreact, just stick to the main goal of your essay: to make yourself known to the judges in an accessible and intelligible way without scattering golden dust over your statements. The spelling has to be correctly done as you wouldn’t like to disappoint an examiner who was impressed with your saying, but not with the mastering of your mother tongue.

Before sending the essay, do read it yourself and see how does this one look like i your eyes: do you appear real and close to the kind of person you are? Then you must have done a pretty good job in your honest attempt to win a scholarship!
